Last Show For The Year

After a few weekends of non-stop shows for us, we're going to be taking a long break from playing shows to re-vamp a few things in our world, most importantly our discography. We're going into the studio with Justin Williams (12,000 Armies) and Josh Pope (The Love Language, The Light Pines) to record a full length that will probably end up around twelve or thirteen tracks. We're hoping to have it out by the spring if we don't go broke by that point. There will be some lineup changes and lots of new songs, so please bear with us in the interim.

In the mean time, however, you can still come see us one more time before the year is over this Saturday at the Duke Coffeehouse with The Explorer's Club and Tripp, which should be a great show and only $5. It's been a while since we've been at the Coffehouse and are really looking forward to it once again. We enjoyed the hell out of ourselves at Troika this weekend in Durham and are excited to be coming back to the Bull City for our last show of the year.

Also, our various members are all now involved in several other projects that will hopefully be around town in the meantime, including Missy Thangs' Soft Company, Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies, and our good friend Alex Maiolo's super-psychedelic Nuggets-era cover band The Julies. We'll keep you posted on those shows, too.

We have posted 4 new tracks from our recent recording sessions in January (recent?) that we have finally finished mixing down. They are songs you will recognise if you've seen us play in the last few months, and hopefully you'll enjoy them. We probably won't be doing anything fancy with them, just using them for press stuff, radio stations, etc. If you reeeally like them and want a copy, just let us know.

Boys Are Back In Town

Having recently moved into our new digs at 1100 N. Greensboro street, now officially dubbed "Château Huguenot," we boys are now residents of the much esteemed Carrboro, NC. We have a really large practice space which we will be sharing with our friends Violet Vector & The Lovely Lovelies in the near future, a future which will also hopefully include some house shows and whatnot. We also have a show with these lovely ladies (and lads) on September 5th at the Local 506, also including the raucous Atlanta quarter Howlies. It will be only one of two shows we'll be doing in town this semester (the other being Luego's CD release party in October with The Tomahawks), so please try and come out. We have a few more shows scheduled, so you can check those out below.

We were also lucky to be selected to partipate in the amazing lineup for Troika's 2009 festival, which includes some of our favorite bands like Max Indian, Hammer No More The Fingers, and Birds of Avalon. We're thrilled to be included amongst such an impressive roster. Head here to get the full story.

We also just finished up our final batch of demos that we recorded at Track & Field recording studio with the also-esteemed Nick Peterson. They should be replacing all our puny self-made recordings in the near future--we're waiting on the funding to get them mastered. Keep your eyes/ears out.

Boys of Summer

So-

Not too much to report here, right now we're all taking time to enjoy the freedom of summer and doing our separate things between a few shows we have coming up. We'll be playing in Winston-Salem at the Wherehouse with two fantastic bands --Terrance & The Tall Boys and Hammer No More The Fingers--on Friday night. If you're in the Triad area you should try and make it out. We will also be doing a low-key show at Carrboro's The Station on Saturday with Chapel Hill's The Alcazar Hotel. Both shows should be fun.

In other Huguenots news, we have the fortune to be joining not only our best friends Violet Vector & The Lovely Lovelies but also the fantastic Black Hollies at the Local 506 on Thursday June 25th. Below is the amazing poster than Dan Warfield (the brains behind our other groovy posters) designed for the show. Definitely the coolest poster we've ever had our names on. That evening promises to be a groove'n'paisley-filled evening so try and come out. Also, we're playing a short abbreviated set which will probably consist of half old songs and half new ones, so it might be worth coming out to see that. Hope all is well, hope to see you out soon,

Tonight we will again be sharing the stage with the ever brilliant Rosewood Thieves, straight outta Brooklyn, NY. They are kicking off their tour in support of their fantastic new EP "Heartaches By The Pound," a collection of Solomon Burke covers (that surpass the originals in this author's opinion). Come out and see two blue-eyed soul poppers do their thing--we'll have CDs and we might even bust out a new song. Hope to see you out,

Happenings

Bonjour-
So we've been busy at work lately on our forthcoming EP, and we're going through a heady round of mixing right now with Nick Peterson trying to get things situated. I can probably say that we're looking at an early Fall release for this record, as we don't want to put it out in the middle of summer when everyone is away, but it may work out just selling it when it's done and waiting until the Fall for a release party. We'll see...

We also spent last Sunday evening with our good friend Derek Torres from Lake Inferior who is recording a version of "I Would Say" for us. I've heard the test mix of the first verse or so and am thoroughly impressed. It's a much richer and fuller sound than you've heard from any of our recordings and I hope to do some more songs with him in the future.

We've got a nice little break in between shows right now and we're taking that time to learn some new songs and break out old ones that haven't been played in awhile. Hopefully we'll be playing some things that are new to your ears in the upcoming weeks. Hope to see you out soon.

Also--we're most likely going to be compiling all our self-produced demos (about 10 or 11 songs) onto a single CDR for sale around the time of our Dive show. It'll kind of be a fond farewell to those crappy recordings of yesteryear, so get them while we have them because we're only planning on making a limited number. It'll sport new album art, too.

Ladies and Gents--

Last night, your favourite blue-eyed-skinny-tied-soul-singers took home the gold in the UNC vs. Duke Battle of the Bands. It was a really (really) long night full of some genuine talent (please look up both The Soulless Dogs and Lake Inferior if you're not familiar with them) and a good crowd. Out of 12 acts we were voted number one by an esteemed panel of music critics, DJs, and school officials based on four categories: originality, technique, stage presence, and audience reaction. Apparently we get to play Duke's Last Day of Classes, which we are told is a fairly big event, so that's exciting. Jeah!

Also- this thursday is our on-campus show with The Love Language, an incendiary pop group that is sure to become a household name in the near future. Not only did Pitchfork blog about their SXSW show, but they were positively glowing about them! Pitchfork doesn't like anyone! It's a free show for UNC students and $5 for general public. Please come out if you haven't seem them yet, as it'll probably be one of the last few times you can see them in such an intimate setting.

Happenings

So-
After a louder-than-everyone-else performance at the Vinyl Records showcase and a weekend full of borderline-soulless solicitation from people we didn't know, we once again failed to get ourselves voted onto Vinyl Records. Pity. In the end, it's probably for the best, as we're set to work with our friend Robin Davies in getting out the inaugural 7" on her burgeoning label, as well as possibly working with the up-and-coming Neckbeard Records (helmed by none other than WKNC super-star Stevo and former DTH Diversions editor Bryan Reed). All exciting possibilities, so we're not discouraged, but forging ahead all the same!

We're trying to get that EP we talked about earlier this year finished, deciding on mixing, mastering, etc (all the annoying parts of making music...). We'd like to have it done before the summer so maybe we can do a big blowout (blow-up?) because someone will be graduating in may...

Our lovely friend Missy Thangs (de la Love Language) is also busy at work writing amazing keyboard and piano parts for our EP, and after hearing a few test mixes, they are sounding hott. Be sure to check her amazing outfit out soon if you haven't already had the experience that is the love language (CD release party @ 506 on March 28th--with max indian no less!).

We have an ass ton of new songs that we're just struggling to keep up with and learn, so please expect us to be debuting new songs at our upcoming shows. We're itching to get some new material out, so hopefully you'll benefit from our over-productiveness. Here's a quick recap of our shows, hope to see you at some of them.

Double-Header

This weekend we played two shows on the same night, one at Duke's Armadillo for their Campus Concert Series, and one at the UNC Dance Marathon (for the kids). It was a hell of a long night, our DM set starting at 3AM. We had a little down time between sets and managed to have some friends celebrate the event with us. We debuted a new song, "Your Little Nothing," as well as some new covers which you may or may not hear in the near future (they may be a bit obvious...), which all went swimmingly well. Also, we're again submitting ourselves to peer review at the Vinyl Records Showcase this Friday, February 27th at Gerrard Hall on UNC Campus at 8pm. We intend to win this time, and our friends (and initial Vinyl signees) Lake Inferior have given us some pointers for the politicking this time 'round. Details on voting soon to follow. It's a free show and open to anyone, and we'll again be playing some new numbers. Hope to see you out!

WXDU Interview Tonight!

Tonight we'll be interviewed on Duke's own WXDU radio station in advance of our upcoming show there next Friday 2/20 at the Armadillo Grill as part of the Campus Concert Series.
